History
Pediatric Association of Manipur(PAM) is an academic body of the pediatricians of Manipur. It was formed in 1989 in Imphal, Manipur. Dr. L. Imo Singh was the first Secretary and Dr.Laishram ibemtombi Devi was the first President and Dr.L.Ranbir Singh was the treasurer.
In the 1950 there were only two pediatricians in Manipur namely Dr Kala Singh and Dr Nawalkishore singh who did Diploma in child health and they were in state service. In 1972 Dr Laishram Ibemtobi Devi came out after completing her MD in Pediatrics from Mumbai University. At the same time the North Eastern Regional Medical College was established in Manipur. Dr .L.Ibemtombi Devi joined as head of the Pediatric Unit of the Medicine Department. Later on when Pediatrics was recognised as a separate speciality, a separate department of Pediatrics was created with Prof L.ibemtombi Devi as the first full time Professor and Head of Pediatrics and she continued to be the head till she retired in 1999. In 1970s many more Pediatricians who completed their post graduation from outside the state joined NE Regional Medical College and some more joined the state service in the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital , Porompat,Imphal East which was latter on converted into Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences,Imphal East, a state run medical college. Then in 1980s and 90s there were an increase in the number of Pediatricians in Manipur. Many of them completed their MD from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences
(Formerly NERMCollege).
The Pediatric Association of Manipur was registered in the year 2003 with seven founder members. In 2020, from the assets of the Association of Pediatricians of India the new office of PAM was purchased on the ground floor of the IMA building,Laphelpat,Imphal west, which is the present office.
